Wyre Council is looking to recruit an independent person to join its Independent Remuneration Panel (IRP).

The Independent Remuneration Panel plays an important role in supporting good governance by making recommendations to the Council on the scheme of allowances paid to councillors. The Panel reviews evidence, considers the responsibilities undertaken by councillors and makes recommendations to the Council on appropriate levels of remuneration.

We are seeking an individual who has a keen interest in local government, strong analytical and questioning skills, and the ability to consider matters objectively and independently. Applicants should have a connection with Wyre through residency, employment or business, or be able to bring a broader perspective to local government affairs. An understanding of financial matters affecting local authorities would also be beneficial.

The Panel normally consists of three independent members and meets only when required. Meetings are usually held at the Civic Centre in Poulton-le-Fylde.

This is a voluntary position; however, panel members will be able to access meeting papers electronically and may claim mileage and other reasonable out-of-pocket expenses.

The successful applicant will be appointed either by Full Council or, where appropriate, by the Monitoring Officer under delegated authority. Appropriate support and briefing will be provided.

To maintain the Panel's independence, appointments are not open to any current elected member, parish councillor or officer of Wyre Council, nor to anyone who has held such a position within the last five years. Close relatives or close friends of elected members or officers of Wyre Council are also ineligible to apply.
